Bridges, Not Walls: Keeping the Peace Between Religions

Faith should be a reason to meet each other, not a reason to fear each other. Why I want to help in interreligious situations — and what that looks like in practice.

A church spire, a minaret and a domed synagogue silhouetted together against a dusk sky with birds in flight.

I have always believed that the people of different faiths have far more in common than the loudest voices on any side want us to believe. We share neighbourhoods, schools, workplaces and streets. We share the same worries about our children and the same hopes for their future.

And yet, again and again, religion is used as a line to divide people.

Peace is work, not a mood

Peace between religions does not happen by itself. It is built in small moments: a conversation that does not escalate, a misunderstanding cleared up early, a neighbour who shows up when it matters.

That is the kind of help I want to offer. Not grand speeches, but practical presence:

  1. Listening first. Most conflicts between communities begin with people feeling unheard.
  2. Translating, not taking sides. Often the same value — dignity, family, justice — is simply expressed in different words.
  3. Bringing people to the same table. Literally. Shared meals have ended more disputes than shared statements.
  4. Calling out hate from every direction. Including from my own side, whenever it appears.

Why an entrepreneur?

Business taught me something politics often forgets: you cannot build anything lasting with people you refuse to trust. Every team I have worked with was mixed — different backgrounds, different faiths, different convictions. What held us together was a shared goal and mutual respect.

Respect is not agreement. It is the decision to treat someone's dignity as non-negotiable, even when you disagree.

An open invitation

If you are part of a community, an organisation or an initiative working on interreligious dialogue — or if you are in a situation where tensions are rising and a calm voice could help — reach out. I would like to help where I can.
